Lee|Charles Alling's book is pretty typical of narratives by WWII veterans, and his wartime experiences seem to be typical as well, insofar as just about every aviator who survived the war missed getting killed by inches or seconds every time they went up. The book is not as eloquent as, say, The Fall of Fortresses by Elmer Bendin| |Fly with a brave band of American boys. As good a World War II story as I've read. -- Jack Harrison.
